Running a small business often means wearing many hats. You are the owner, the marketer, the customer service team and the problem solver all in one. Because of this, advertising can sometimes feel like another task on an already long list, and it can be difficult to know which approach will actually work.
One thing I have learnt through creating Island View Connect over the past year is that there is no single formula for advertising a small business. What works beautifully for one business may not work the same way for another. Some businesses thrive through storytelling and articles, others through social media, community events, partnerships, or simply strong word of mouth. Every business has its own personality, audience and stage of growth.
Because of this, I always encourage business owners to think of advertising less as a one-size-fits-all solution and more as a conversation about what will genuinely suit them.
If you are feeling unsure about where to start or where to focus your energy next, please feel welcome to reach out for a chat. While I may be able to help through Island View Connect, there may also be times where I am not the best fit for what you need.
What I can offer, however, is connection.
Over the past year I have had the privilege of meeting many wonderful business owners across the Fraser Coast. Through the magazine, the directory and community conversations, I have come to know a growing network of people who are passionate about what they do and genuinely want to support others.
So if you reach out and what you need sits outside what I provide, there is a good chance I may know another local business who can help. I am always happy to introduce people and connect the right services together, whether or not they are currently advertising in the magazine or directory.
Because at the heart of it all, that is what community is really about — supporting one another and helping each other move forward.
